LITERARY INTERPRETATION – FROM CINDIA

THEME IN THE NOVEL: STORIES

More about the work inspired by “Vodnik” or “The Water Goblin,” click here

“Memento Mori” with art by Jessica Wiseman and code by MoPAr is a captivating dynamic digital work that artfully intertwines culture, mythology, and storytelling. Inspired by Erben’s poem “Vodník (The Water Goblin),” this mesmerizing triptych seamlessly weaves Czech legend into an evolving narrative through stunning imagery and was exhibited at Lobkowicz Palace, Prague in 2022 to spotlight not only the poem but also the important role of collectors and the joy of collecting.

This work can be collected in parts or as a whole, each part offering a unique viewing experience and story, the entire work showcasing the full narrative. If collected in parts, when the entire work has been acquired, each individual collector will be able to enjoy both the part collected and the entire triptych.

In parallel, “The Spice Temple” novel seamlessly merges the real with the imagined, incorporating Swiss legends and culture into its captivating story world. This narrative is vividly brought to life through digital art, with each piece revealing facets of the story world.

This artwork beautifully exemplifies the power of visual storytelling to immerse us in the heart of a story world, highlighting the potential of digital expression in celebrating human stories and culture.

In recent years, Jessica Wiseman has only created a handful of unique 1/1s, all of which are now in private collections. Memento Mori is a rare opportunity to collect an artwork that is both visually and technically powerful with exquisite provenance.

BIOGRAPHY OF JESSICA WISEMAN

Jessica Wiseman is a 22 year old artist from the United Kingdom. With a passion for anything creative, her youth was spent dedicating hours to traditional mediums and working on canvas, and this exposure to artwork heightened as she became more familiar with digital mediums in her early teens. Experimenting with all forms of art at a young age coiled a desire to pursue both realism-portraiture and 3D animation alongside each other mediums as she matured.

As Jess continued to develop her skills and began working alongside various; artists, musicians and brands, the time felt right to pursue her own career. With a notable list of clientele including; Doja Cat, Lil Nas X, Billionaire Boys Club, KSI, Vexx, Notwoways and many more, having spent most of her career as an artist doing work for her clientele, she began expanding her work with complete creative freedom as her own artist.

With a backlog of animation and 3D experience under her belt, she was able to use everything she’d learnt when starting her own company ‘Figuregot’ alongside other 1 of 1 personal artworks, Figuregot provided her the perfect opportunity to explore the depths of her imagination and limits as an artist. Fast forward to 2023, her artwork’s presuit for ‘realism-combined-abstractionism’ is abundant in her recent pieces both off and on the canvas.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION

This work is the result of a collaboration between MoPAr and Wiseman.

MoPAr (Museum of Permuted Art), founded by Rodania Leong, a former art specialist and anthropologist, and Rob Fan, a technologist, is an online platform that explores the ways blockchain technology can connect cultures, communities, and centuries through art.

Memento Mori is a triptych that depicts life, death, and its intermediary transitions. The artwork draws inspiration from Karel Jaromír Erben’s poem, “Vodník” (“The Water Goblin). Each frame of the triptych is offered as a separate NFT that has its own custom smart contract.

Always looking to use blockchain technology to add another dimension of meaning to art, MoPAr developed the smart contract of this piece such that when all three individual NFTs are collected, each owner will be able to view the work in its entirety—regardless of having only purchased one. Memento Mori is not only a reimagination of the canonical poem, “Vodník;” it also reimagines the concept of co-collectorship and community development around a work of art.

This work is an animated dynamic NFT triptych that depicts life, death and its intermediary transitions and decay with our custom code celebrating joint collectorship. Inspired by the Erben poem, ‘Vodník’, from the important body of Czech literary poems Kytice, this work of art tells the story in three parts, each offered as its own NFT. When all the individual NFTs are collected, the three NFTs combine to reveal the visual in its entirety, telling the full story of the poem. The collectors of each individual part are rewarded with ownership of the completed triptych.

As with all MoPAr collections, Momento Mori also utilises the metadata. For each part of this triptych, a note behind this special commission for Non-Fungible Castle has been written.
